Yuri Klebanov

Associate Researcher, The University of Tokyo

Born in Tver, Russia, Yuri made aliyah at age eight with his father and his grandparents. After graduating high school in Jerusalem, where he majored in computer science and physics, Yuri spent four years in the IDF combat intelligence forces as a company commander. In 2011, he graduated the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem with a major in interaction design. He then joined Innovid, a startup in Tel Aviv which has since grown to be a successful company with offices all over the world. In 2014 Yuri moved to the U.K. to study at the Royal College of Art and the Imperial College, London, receiving both an M.A. and an M.Sc. He then relocated to Tokyo, Japan, where he helped establish a novel, experimental Design Lab at the University of Tokyo. Currently, Yuri works as a researcher at the Design Lab, leading multiple interdisciplinary and international projects. The majority of those projects are aimed at creating new, enhanced connections between Japan and Israel, bringing together Japanese and Israeli research, design, and innovation cultures. In the past two years, Yuri has established multiple new collaborations between several research labs and institutes in Japan and Israel, across a wide spectrum of research topics such as design, cognitive science, robotics, bio-engineering and computer vision, to name a few.
